Rules & Information

Open to All Members (without a PAW Soosh) | Sep 01 - Sep 30 @ 11:59pm ET

For this event, we are allowing every new user during the month of September to create 1 (one) free Sushi Dog design! This is open to First-Time Owners (FTOs) and long-time members who have not participated in this event in the past!

But here's the catch! We want to hear about a food that means a lot to you and see the Sushi Dog based on it! Sushi Dogs created for this event will be labeled under the "PAW" category rather than MYO (i.e. PAW-001: Mac and Cheese)

Rules

• To participate in this event, you must fill out the form at the bottom of the page. This includes a prompt to write at least 250 words about a type of food that means a lot to you! Once ready, please comment below.

• The Sushi Dog you create must be at least loosely based on the food that you selected to write about!

• All art and design must be completed by the person submitting it if possible. If the user is unfamiliar with the species or not confident in their art, they may request FREE assistance from friends.

• If a correction needs to be made you will be contacted either via reply or Discord if you choose to include it. Pending submissions are valid up to one week after Sep 30 @ 11:59 pm to allow for corrections. You will be notified before the week deadline.

• Any soosh created under this event is LOCKED to your account. This means you cannot trade them, sell them, gift them, or surrender them to the mirror.

• If you decide later you no longer want the design, it must be RETIRED as a Sushi Dog. They will remain on the site after retiring for archival purposes using the "RTD" tag.

• All Sushi Dogs submitted via this event must be ALL STAPLE traits. No items will be allowed to help speed up our approval process. You may apply items later once your design has been approved and registered.

• These rules may be updated later upon community questions and concerns. Please be sure to read through it one last time before submitting your design in case something has changed!

Sushi Dog Food: chocolate-covered honeycake

Story of Food:
chocolate-covered honeycakes have honestly been a part of my childhood for a really, really long time!
this specific brand, medenka lubimka (in proper bulgarian it's called "меденка любимка") is local to my country (at least im pretty sure that it is) and even since primary school i've been basically obsessed with them. they're literally the best snack money can buy and i won't be hearing any objections hehe
they're also sold for relatively cheap, the equivalent of like 40 cents in dollars. the price hasn't changed for as long as i can remember so i've been constantly looking for loose coins in my wallet to spend on these!
in my primary school, me and my friends used to constantly be late to class because we'd need to go to the nearest supermarket to get the snacks we wanted to eat, which included these honeycakes that i got so often
once i moved to my current school, which is an art school, it basically became an inside joke between me and a part of my class. in other words i'm so captivated by these honey cakes that it's a well known fact in my class lmao
my favorite instances of these are during lunch breaks when i'd constantly ask my classmates to go to the store to buy me some of these, it's not really a big deal but i've always had issues with really fitting in, so i find it a really nice experience to have my peers actually remember things about me like my favorite snack, and both find it funny or even charming that i'm so keen on them!

Sushi Dog Food: Christmas Cookies
Story of Food: When I was a little kid, my mother used to buy these every Christmas season. They were cute little sugar cookies (I think they were sugar cookies) that had red or green sprinkles on top, and all of them were shaped like various Christmas implements like bells, trees, stars and Christmas ornaments. I loved the flavor and they used to seem so much BIGGER when I was a little kid! I remember the sweet sugar cookie taste, the distinct look and how I always associated them with Christmas. This is one of the few foods that really stick out to me from my childhood and that mean something to me looking back -- simple, store-bought Christmas themed sugar cookies. Not much, but they stick out in my mind as a Christmas tradition I enjoyed.
This, along with the Christmas get-togethers with my family. We used to go to both sets of grandparents every Christmas... then it was my aunt's house where we gathered to exchange gifts, usually on Christmas Eve, and then my dad's parents on Christmas day, where we'd exchange gifts there and have a Christmas dinner. Nowadays, things are a bit different, with both sets of grandparents having passed on... but we still get together at my aunt's house, and play a game called Dirty Santa where we pass around gifts and "steal" from each other until we get the present we want the most. It's become a new tradition and it's a lot of fun. Another new one is the "snowball" fights ... not real snowballs but big cotton-like toy balls that are a blast to throw at people and don't hurt when you get hit by one. It's a great stress reliever. I enjoy throwing them at people in my family I'm upset with or currently mad at -- very cathartic! And you're not really hurting anyone. I miss the good old days, when we had Christmas at my aunt's house and my grandparents, but we do still get together and spend time with everyone when we can. My mom's dad, my Papaw on my mother's side -- he was always the biggest fan of Christmas. It was him that got everyone started exchanging gifts at my aunt's house, a tradition we carry on to this very day. I still miss him a lot.
We usually have a Christmas dinner that reminds me a lot of Thanksgiving -- turkey and/or ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, all that good stuff. I think the only difference is that we have Christmas themed desserts at Christmas. I'm pretty sure the little store bought Christmas cookies were one of those favored treats looking back. I'll always remember them for this reason. I loved them and I realized recently I still want a bag of them when Christmas rolls around. When I found a bag at work last Christmas I was delighted, I hadn't seen them in years and I loved these little cookies! It's unfortunate that now I have to watch my sugar as I'm pretty much diabetic, but I still love them anyway. They really speak to me in a nostalgic way.

edit I didn't see the rule about not using lineart (no help). Sorry! I replaced the design link with one I drew myself.

Sushi Dog Food: pink & blue pudding cups Story of Food: I LOVE THESE PUDDINGS!!! theyre right at the top of my list of favourite things!! i chose to make these puddings the prompt for my sushidogs because they mean a lot to me and remind me of the happy parts of my childhood :) i am particularly reminded of when i would beg my mom to buy them for me when she went food shopping and then eating them super slowly with a tiny spoon to savor the taste because i loved them so much... they are also a super big safe food for me bc of their texture and always make me feel better when im feeling down, which is a big plus! :)
to describe what it's like to eat them, i'd describe them as lightly caramel flavored and with the consistency of jell-o/jelly! they're yellow with a brown, pink or blue top and sometimes come with a sweet tasting, caramel syrup that settles at the bottom of the cup but still tastes good!!! you eat them with a spoon, and it's kind of hard to keep on your spoon because of how slippery it can be. ive never really had anything like it, which is why i think it had left such a big impression on me, especially because i'm not the biggest fan of caramel flavours normally! however, if i had to compare it to something, it would be jell-o/jelly, but less rubbery, and more delicate and milky. you can eat this food with toppings, like berries, chocolate or whipped cream, but i prefer to eat it on its own, as i think it's perfect as it is, and doesn't need much else to compliment it. i remember the first time i ate this pudding was when i was a kid and i found them at the back of my fridge! i knew they were my dad's puddings but i wanted to try one anyway and got hooked!! he got mad at me for stealing his puddings, but it was totally worth it :) i forgot about creme caramels
until a couple months ago when i went food shopping with my mom and found them again in the dairy aisle, but now i'm hooked again! it feels like a blast from the past, and makes me feel warm & fuzzy inside to be eating them again :) id love to give it a shot at making them myself, but i'm a little intimidated, as it's a lot of ingredients wasted if i happen to mess up, which is bound to happen as i'm a little clumsy & not good at baking things that aren't cake! for now, i think i'll just keep buying my creme caramels from the store, as it's the easiest way to go about it! these puddings are also what one of my favourite ocs is based off of, which just happens to be the other sushidog i own!! i thought it'd be super cute if i had all of the colours of flan as ocs, so why not make them all related?

Sushi Dog Food: Matane Roll
Story of Food: Fish has always been a really big part of life. I was raised on it by my family as they really love different cultures and my dad goes fishing, and its no surprise that sushi has easily become one of my favorite foods out of all of the foods ever!! I'm pretty terrible and really love eating raw food, like meats and uncooked veg, so sushi really scratches that happy chemical in my brain.
I have a really special little shop in my town that does freshly made sushi, and out of all the places i've tried this is the one shop which really brings me back to the restaurants I visited when I went to Japan. It does everything right and brings me straight back there, so not only does it fill me up, it brings me such great nostalgia!
Salmons easily my favorite kind of fish, next to dogfish and rainbow trout but that's because my dad always brings it home freshly caught. You can literally do almost anything with it, pair it with any dish and no matter what itll have my mouth drooling and ill be waiting for seconds!! I'm really bad and I can probably eat trays and trays of the Matane sushi rolls, in fact i've uh... Done that way too many times on my off days.
Also, how on earth could I resist not having a sushi, sushidog? It's something ive always wanted, even as a little kid looking over on da seeing how much fun closed species could be, and now look at me, aged 22 loving them all and making baby me happy!!

Sushi Dog Food: Kinder surprise
Story of Food:
I was born in canada, and growing up one of my favorite treats was the kinder egg chocolate. Every time I went to the grocery store, or after school, I would beg my grandmother or mother to get one for me. I loved everything about the treat, as a kid the little toys inside were so enticing, but as I got older, I just really loved the mix of milk and white chocolate. When I moved to the states, sadly they are illegal here, so naturally, I would do what most people do and try and find a replacement, most things that had the same mix of milk and white chocolate didn't come close, either with texture or taste. I honestly don't care about the toy at all, I just want my egg. Since the toy, being inside the food is what made it illegal. Kinder, ended up releasing an American version, which still ended up sadly having an off texture and taste, so I am left sad without my precious chocolate egg, or am I? I live in an area that is seen as a popular tourist destination, so a lot of malls and shops have small booths, and included with those, are well, kinder egg smugglers...People who smuggled the small illegal chocolate egg into the states. Though with this luxury obviously comes a premium price, up 5x as much as I'd pay in Canada. So I buy these only sparingly, as not to break the bank. Even then it becomes a pain since these shops frequently get closed down, so its a hunt to find the next one. The hunt for the kinder egg. It's a luxury for me, and I feel so happy when I get my hands on them, maybe due to the scarcity? I don't know, I guess I also get a bit of a kick out of the fact it's illegal, here, even though only the importation is illegal, so no crime was committed by myself. I guess at the end of the day I'm just happy to have my favorite chocolate treat.
