Sushi Dog Food: fried chicken & waffles
Story of Food:
i'm from the american south and while that comes with plenty of bad associations, one great thing we've got going for us is our food!! yesterday was my own birthday as well as the start of this soosh event, so i thought it'd be fun to make my myo based off of fried chicken & waffles, what i had for my birthday meal yesterday!! it's a meal that brings me such comfort and warmth and makes me appreciate the good parts of where i live when those parts can be easily overshadowed. it wasn't something i'd actually tried for myself until i was a teenager, but a locally owned restaurant really made me love it!! they make their own toppings for your waffles that you can pick from, similar to different flavors of butter. and i have absolutely no idea what seasoning they use for their chicken but it's absolutely delicious. the feeling of supporting local businesses and their genuinely amazing food is wonderful, and something i'd encourage everyone to do! even aside from this local business, it's also such a tasty meal to have at home. my mother recently bought a waffle maker and we've had so many yummy meals with it, including chicken and waffles! i'm a huge sucker for mom's cooking, so almost anything she makes becomes a comfort food for me, but this one easily lands closer to the top of that list for being my favorite breakfast food and my favorite type of meat all in one go. (:

Sushi Dog Food: Dolly Mix
Story of Food: Dolly mix is a british confectionary consisting of various colored Fondants, and colored jellies. theyve been a mainstay at any british Pick n mix or traditional sweet shop since their conception. this isnt a story about dolly mix though its about jelly beans, their partner in crime on the dusty shelves of glass jars
as a lil kiddo skipping to school every morning i'd pass a shop that sold plumbing supplies to tradesmen. wandering past all the tubing and toilets, at the front on their desk was a vending machine you could put 20p in and get a handful of sweets back out of. for the best part of 2 years as I passed the shop i'd say 'jelly beans' in my dumb high voice, and all the tradesmen and staff would clear a path to the front desk for me. one day i'd tripped over and lost my coins crossing the roads, and seeing the usually cheery boyo a little dustier than normal searching all over for his morning comfort food, the owner took pity and put 20p in the machine on his behalf. Years after around the time I was in high school I found myself in the area again and thought id go check and see if it was still there. It wasnt, presumably the tradesman mustve been pretty good for buying jelly beans aswell because theyd invested in a bigger standing vending machine you'd put a quid into and get a pot of sweets. they were alright but nothing compared to the handful of probably expired jelly beans I remembered so fondly growing up.
as for Dolly mix, i'd often be given a bag by family visiting every so often, the differing textures and bright colors were just as easy on the eye as the palette, and are the anchor point of many duller childhood memories that wouldve otherwise gone amiss. im sure the fact they were pretty cheap definitely helped
