Sushi Dog Food: Dark Chocolate Mint Cookies
Story of Food: So, ever since I was a child one of my favorite flavors of all time has been mint chocolate, comparable only to strawberries. One of my favorite memories was when I was in high school, me and a few friends had just finished the biggest test we had of the year, and one of the upper classmen in our group offered to buy us ice cream from the new parlor that had just opened up. We all had a free hour that afternoon so we walked across the railroad tracks over to the parlor. I was the last in line to get my ice cream because I couldn't decide what to get. I had originally settled on strawberry cheesecake, but was told to pick a second scoop of anything. that was when I decided to try the mint chocolate chip with it. As a bonus, the worker there had decided to add a couple dark chocolate little mint cookies to it much like thin mints along with little fresh strawberry chunks and little squares of cheesecake bites. It was probably the best ice cream I've had to this day. Back then I didn't get much in frivolous thing, so getting a two scoop ice cream with extras on top meant the world to me. Even to this day I'll buy me a box of mint chocolate cookies once in a while (Especially when the girl scouts come by and set up their stand) because they remind me of that time.

(TW for Animal Death & Mentions of Animal Abuse) I thought a sentimental design would be appropriate for an anniversary sushi dog, so I based this design off of my childhood dog Delilah, who passed away in June 2018. Delilah was a rehabilitated 'bait dog' rescued from an illegal dog-fighting ring before she came to me at age ten. Because I don't want to traumatize anyone who might read this, I won't elaborate on what a 'bait dog' is, just know that Delilah was understandably very skittish and afraid of people and other animals because of her background. I was ten years old and bugging my parents for a puppy, but instead, I adopted Delilah, which my parents weren't keen on at first because she would growl and bark at people and was generally afraid of everything. I still wanted her, even though she wasn't a puppy like I had originally asked for. I don't remember what it was that drew me to her over any other puppy or dog I could have picked, but ten-year-old me must have had great perception, because Delilah would come to be the sweetest and most loyal companion a person could hope for. It was a lot of work for a little kid to earn such a frightened animal's trust (and required a lot of sneaky treats of people food that my parents didn't know about lol). Delilah crossed the rainbow bridge after a brief battle with cancer. We didn't know for certain how old she was, since she was an adult when we adopted her, but the vet estimated her to be 16 to 17 years old. I don't know how many years she spent in that terrible situation and what exactly she went through, but I hope that the 10+ years we had together were happy enough to make up for it. I thought a sushi dog to honor her memory would be a nice comfort for me. I would love to use an item in the future to give her angel wings to match her halo. ♥

Sushi Dog Food: Black Coffee
Story of Food: I knew when I started designing this soosh that I wanted them to be very personal to me- so I finally did what I'd wanted to do since I had first discovered the species in 2014- have a soosh inspired by my best friend and life-long companion, Misty. Unfortunately, she's no longer here with me. I lost her earlier this year after having her in my life since I was seven years old. She celebrated my twenty-first birthday with me in January and then a month later she had to cross the rainbow bridge. Growing up, she lived with my grandparents, so every weekend I would visit and would drink coffee in the mornings while playing in the living room with her. When I got my first job as a barista, I'd always sip on coffee while making my way to the door, excited to see her after a long and hard day. Coffee isn't just something I'd associate with her, it does actually mean a lot in my family, we'd always have coffee during a Christmas Eve party or even now when we're just having a get together we'll be picking up coffee from Dunkin Donuts on the way there for everyone. When it comes to Misty, though, seeing her in the morning while drinking that mug of coffee is one of my happiest times as a kid and that is why I've chosen Black Coffee as the food theme while designing the soosh itself in the image of my best friend.
