Rules & Information
Open to All Members (without an ANN Soosh) | Sep 01 - Sep 30 @ 11:59pm
For this event, we are allowing every new user during the month of September to create 1 (one) free Sushi Dog design! This is open to First-Time Owners (FTOs) and long-time members who have not participated in this event in the past!
But here's the catch! We want to hear about a food that means a lot to you and see the Sushi Dog based on it! Sushi Dogs created for this event will be labeled under the "ANN" category rather than MYO (i.e. ANN-001: Mac and Cheese)

Sushi Dog Food: Christmas Cookies
Story of Food: When I was a little kid, my mother used to buy these every Christmas season. They were cute little sugar cookies (I think they were sugar cookies) that had red or green sprinkles on top, and all of them were shaped like various Christmas implements like bells, trees, stars and Christmas ornaments. I loved the flavor and they used to seem so much BIGGER when I was a little kid! I remember the sweet sugar cookie taste, the distinct look and how I always associated them with Christmas. This is one of the few foods that really stick out to me from my childhood and that mean something to me looking back -- simple, store-bought Christmas themed sugar cookies. Not much, but they stick out in my mind as a Christmas tradition I enjoyed.
This, along with the Christmas get-togethers with my family. We used to go to both sets of grandparents every Christmas... then it was my aunt's house where we gathered to exchange gifts, usually on Christmas Eve, and then my dad's parents on Christmas day, where we'd exchange gifts there and have a Christmas dinner. Nowadays, things are a bit different, with both sets of grandparents having passed on... but we still get together at my aunt's house, and play a game called Dirty Santa where we pass around gifts and "steal" from each other until we get the present we want the most. It's become a new tradition and it's a lot of fun. Another new one is the "snowball" fights ... not real snowballs but big cotton-like toy balls that are a blast to throw at people and don't hurt when you get hit by one. It's a great stress reliever. I enjoy throwing them at people in my family I'm upset with or currently mad at -- very cathartic! And you're not really hurting anyone. I miss the good old days, when we had Christmas at my aunt's house and my grandparents, but we do still get together and spend time with everyone when we can. My mom's dad, my Papaw on my mother's side -- he was always the biggest fan of Christmas. It was him that got everyone started exchanging gifts at my aunt's house, a tradition we carry on to this very day. I still miss him a lot.
We usually have a Christmas dinner that reminds me a lot of Thanksgiving -- turkey and/or ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, all that good stuff. I think the only difference is that we have Christmas themed desserts at Christmas. I'm pretty sure the little store bought Christmas cookies were one of those favored treats looking back. I'll always remember them for this reason. I loved them and I realized recently I still want a bag of them when Christmas rolls around. When I found a bag at work last Christmas I was delighted, I hadn't seen them in years and I loved these little cookies! It's unfortunate that now I have to watch my sugar as I'm pretty much diabetic, but I still love them anyway. They really speak to me in a nostalgic way.
