Sushi Dog Food: Birthday Carrot Cake
Story of Food: I'm an extremely picky eater, never was much for veggies, so years ago when I was asked to try carrot cake, I scoffed to myself. I'd never heard of it before. Then I tried it - and it became my absolute favorite cake. It was moist and incredibly sweet. It came from a little bakery around the corner - I learned that they were very well known in the area for their carrot cake, their prized jewel.
I made my friends try it, I made my family try it, everyone loved it and for some it even became their favorite too.
When I moved away from that area, I tried many other carrot cakes - none could ever compare, for starters they all had walnuts in them, something which my favorite did not have. Then, when I did find someone who would make it without walnuts... it still didn't taste the same. There's something special about its deliciousness, a family recipe maybe.
I'd ask my family to get it for me every year for my birthday, some years they couldn't, but when they could, I was ecstatic.
This one specific cake, from this one tiny specific bakery, in this one area, is my absolutely favorite food.
Which is why I cried when I heard the bakery had gone out of business earlier this year.
I don't know what happened to them, or if they will come back, all I know is that my favorite cake will only ever live in my memory, and now, as this soosh, who I've named Carrot.

Sushi Dog Food: mixed cookie dough and cream ice cream
Story of Food: I've always been a sucker for cookies and such ever since I was little, most likely because I think like most kids they were used as a good treat for me when I was on my best behavior, though we also didn't really have much money so having treats like that were an even further rarity and are probably why I have such a proficiency for sweets now. Regular chocolate chip cookies were always my favorite but I always liked the black/white color scheme so I always wanted something more for cookies. There were obviously oreos and as much as I like those they don't just hit the same as an adult. I can't recall exactly when I found out about cookies and cream but I remember how excited I was when I first did and finding out it was primarily an ice cream was even better! Even later than that I found out about cookie dough ice cream and I would do anything for a mixed box of the two of them together so I can have my fill of both chocolate chip and cookies and cream at the same time so I decided to incorporate both into this little silly. Split designs are also my favorite and there are a lot of ice cream flavors where theres multiple kinds in one box so I rolled that all up into one! As an added bonus too I added the hint of blue in the cheeks and scarf as a very tiny nod to one of my favorite childhood characters: Cookie Monster. That's probably obvious at this point but I wanted the little nod as an homage- I think he'd approve to be honest!

Sushi Dog Food: Blueberry Pawpsicle
Story of Food: I wanted a simple little Sushi Dog and thought that I should combine a bunch of my emotional comforts to represent them, making them all the more special to me :D
Firstly, I live in a tropical country and unfortunately, my body gets warm really really easily. So, I turn to cold desserts, especially popsicles. I love all the colours and designs they can come in. Even when they’re scuffed and don't look like the packaging at all, I think it just adds so much charm to it. Moreover, since I am extremely frugal when I spend money on myself, popsicles are the more affordable cold snacks and so convenient. They’re also easy to make and I love crunching on the ice >:3c Although I am not the target audience anymore, the distant ringing of the local ice cream vendor's bells always makes the child in me jump in excitement.
Secondly, I don't have a dog in real life to base my anniversary soosh off of. Instead, I opted for an amazing childhood show that I still have a soft spot for, Blue's Clues! It made me fond of the pawprint shape and drawing in notepads ehe. Additionally, thanks to the internet, I was introduced to Bluey! I fell in love instantly. It makes me so genuinely happy seeing media for kids be so wholesome and praised by all age groups, just like it deserves. These two shows are different in many ways but they have the same level of comfort to me. Thus, I hold them dear to my heart. Coincidentally, they’re both related to the blue colour, so of course I had to work that into the soosh. :3

Sushi Dog Food: Cookie Platter
Story of Food: This took a lot of brainstorming for me, because I never really even think about what my favorite food would even be, but after trying to figure out what a special food to me is, I realized it was cookies. In every scenario that I could think of that was food related, it would be some kind of cookie. Oreos, peanut butter cookies, and sugar cookies happen to all pop up in what feel like core memories for me. Oreos, because one of the last summers I ever spent with my dad, we would sit on the couch with milk and oreos and play mario kart on my wii u for hours. It's probably my favorite memory of hanging out with my dad because while I was at his house food was pretty restricted but when it was just the two of us we could sit and eat a bunch of oreos with milk and just game. I didn't realize it back then but this would become a very stand-out memory for me. Peanut butter cookies are special to me because when I was young, my cousins and I would all get to spend after school hours at our grandparents house, and our granny lived next door and she'd bake SUPER delicious home made peanut butter cookies and we'd all hang out and eat them together. My granny passed away when I was pretty young so I don't have a lot of memories of her anymore but what I do remember is how amazingly her baked goods tasted and how exciting it was to go over to her house and see she had something she baked. PB cookies were definitely one of the most common things and I'm starting to realize how much I miss them AND her because nobody baked em the way she did. Sugar cookies are special to me because when I'd spend time at my moms house I'd get to pick something from the grocery store and it would be frosted sugar cookies, the ones you can find at walmart. Pretty generic I guess but they're the one thing I vividly remember always enjoying in my lunch or sneaking a few at home and then blaming my little brother for it (so mean, I know). I haven't had any in recent years but I lowkey think I might pick some up on my next grocery run.

Sushi Dog Food: silky ramen with extra noodles
Story of Food: ramen is a very big comfort food of mine even though i don't have it as often as i'd like to! but, i have very fond memories of going out with my dad to get ramen, regardless of distance. every time he would come and visit me, since he lives a few states away, we would go out and get something to eat and we almost always defaulted to ramen. we would usually get something for breakfast at a cafe or somewhere nearby before it was time to eat lunch, though! every experience was different, but i vividly remember sitting at the counter at a ramen shop in the city where you could watch the chefs work and i still think that was the coolest thing ever to this day oh my gosh. i was always worried about adding extra toppings and making it more expensive (even though i am still guilty of doing that). noodles are my absolute favorite thing so imagine my surprise when i realized i could get extra ones??? granted, i didn't. so this soosh is in honor of that.. </3 writing about this really makes my craving for ramen worse, especially since i was browsing online for ramen inspiration omg..... and it doesn't help that i'm so hungry right now but i'm trying to hurry up and finish this!!!! but yeah, there is no greater experience than sipping on pipping hot broth while it's chilly out and saving the best pieces for last. it makes me so excited for it to start cooling down over here!
